You must look at what happened to the Soviet Union. They spent ten years there and it bankrupted them.

With the way that the American economy is, can we really afford to be in Afghanistan?

This could be one of his worst decisions. It will add, to his problems. The worse that the military does in Afghanistan the lower his approval ratings will slump.
