There is no argument that the state of Louisiana’s educational system is in bad shape. Much like the state government, the education bureaucracy is morbidly obese. It needs to, not only have liposuction and to have its stomach stapled.
I know that sounds a bit radical but the educational status of the good people of this state has been in a static position for forty years or more. This leads to the fact that we, as a state, can’t get the high tech jobs.
The answer, for far too long, is to throw money at the problem. This solution has not worked. It all starts at home, it the parents don’t care then what can you do. Let’s say, that the parents are not the problem. Then we need to look at the teachers. Don’t get me wrong, I think we should pay them as much as possible, but with this caveat, if the students have to take a test to go to the next grade, the teachers should have to be evaluated as well. We need to know that they are doing their jobs. If they fail their evaluation then they get a strike against them, and are suspended for a week. They must take two evaluations per year. If the fail their second evaluation then they will lose tenure until they can pass two consecutive evaluations. If they fail three consecutive evaluations, they are fired and they can’t work in the state of Louisiana, as a teacher, for one year.
I know this sounds tough and probably would now see the lite of day, but something drastic needs to be done.
