The 2009 election was seen as a shifting of sensibilities from conservative to liberal. It was misread into saying that the country wanted to go left and go there in a big way.
What were they reading?
The experts/talking heads/ liberal intellectuals thought that it would be easy, with the president and congress being of the same party, to get things passed that would move the country to the hard left.
Again, they were wrong.
The tea parties and town halls were proof that the American people want nothing to do with the way that the president and the congress are governing.
